What makes up the cost of braces?
The price of teeth straightening reflects the whole course of treatment, not just the appliance: the examination and planning, the appliance itself, the adjustment visits and the retainer at the end.
What the written quote should list
A detailed written quote tells you in advance what is included and what is not. Check that it lists the examination, X-rays and digital scan; the appliance itself (brackets and wires, or a series of aligners); the visits during treatment; what happens if a bracket comes off or an aligner is lost; and removing the braces and the retainer at the end.
What may be added
Treatments that are not part of the straightening itself are usually priced separately. Orthodontic treatment only starts when the gums are healthy, so a cleaning, fillings or an extraction are sometimes needed first. An extra series of aligners to refine the result, or replacing a lost retainer, may also be added.
Braces cost by type of appliance
The type of appliance is one of the main factors in the price, but it is chosen first of all according to your case: not every method suits every patient. The table sums up what drives the cost of each method.
| Method | What affects the cost | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Metal braces | Metal brackets and wires; usually the least costly option | Work 24 hours a day and also suit complex cases |
| Clear (ceramic) braces | Bracket material (ceramic or sapphire); a broken bracket must be replaced | Less visible than metal; hard foods need care |
| Lingual braces | Custom-made brackets produced in a lab; longer fitting and adjustment visits | Invisible from the outside; speech needs a short adjustment period |
| Clear aligners | Number of aligners, plus any refinement series | Removable; must be worn at least 22 hours a day |
Choose a method because it suits your case, not on price alone, and check what the quote includes.
Teeth straightening at the clinic
- Dr Haim Aseriel treats patients with clear aligners: he has been a certified Invisalign provider since 2014 and is also certified for Spark aligners by Ormco.
- Clear (ceramic) braces and lingual braces are fitted at the clinic by an orthodontist, a dentist who has completed specialty training in straightening teeth.
- Digital scans are taken with a Shining 3D Aoralscan 3 intraoral scanner, without traditional impressions.
How is the price of orthodontic treatment set?
The price is set at the end of the diagnostic process, according to the treatment plan.
Examination, X-rays and digital scan
The first examination looks at your teeth, gums and bite. X-rays are taken only when the information is expected to affect treatment (ADA/FDA), and the digital scan creates a 3D map of the teeth to plan the movement.
Choice of method and treatment plan
The method is chosen according to the complexity of the case, your age and your aesthetic wishes, together with the expected length of treatment and how often you will be seen. Complex cases, such as a skeletal jaw problem, sometimes call for an orthodontist's opinion.
Written quote
At the end of the consultation with Dr Haim Aseriel you receive a detailed written quote, based on your individual treatment plan.

During the consultation, Dr Haim Aseriel examines your teeth, explains all the options and gives you a transparent price quote, with no obligation. The clinic is at 12 HaTnufa Street, Jerusalem.
Length of treatment, visits and number of aligners
The longer and more complex the treatment, the more visits, wires or aligners and chair time it needs, and all of these affect the price.
According to the American Association of Orthodontists, most patients wear braces for 12 to 24 months, with a visit every 4 to 12 weeks (AAO). Clear aligners are changed every one to two weeks, so the number of aligners in the series depends on how much the teeth need to move (AAO).
Severe crowding, rotated teeth or a bite problem lengthen treatment. Your own commitment counts too: aligners worn less than 22 hours a day slow progress, and an extra series is sometimes needed.
According to a 2024 review, in one study comparing the two methods, treatment with clear aligners finished 3 months sooner and needed 8 fewer visits than fixed braces (Katib et al., Cureus, 2024). In any individual case, the length of treatment and the number of visits follow the treatment plan.
The retainer at the end of treatment
A retainer is needed once the teeth are straight, so include it in your budget from the start.
The retainer holds the teeth in their new position: without it, or if it is not worn as instructed, teeth tend to drift partly back. Retainers can be fixed, bonded behind the teeth, or removable; the type and how long it is worn depend on your case (AAO).
Braces or a dental bridge?
In Hebrew, the word "gesher" (bridge) is used both for orthodontic braces and for a fixed restoration that replaces a missing tooth. These are two different treatments, priced on different factors. The cost of a bridge that replaces a tooth depends mainly on the number of units, the material and the condition of the supporting teeth, as explained on the dental bridge cost page.
Health funds and insurance: what to check
According to Kol Zchut, orthodontic treatment is not included in Israel's national health basket for children and teenagers (Kol Zchut, 2026). Whether a health fund's supplementary plan or a private dental policy, including a US policy, contributes depends on the plan and its terms. Check with your health fund or insurer before you start what is covered and to what extent, and show them the written quote.

Braces cost: frequently asked questions
Because the price follows your individual treatment plan: the method that suits your case, how complex the crowding or bite problem is, the expected length of treatment and the number of visits. These can only be assessed after an examination, a digital scan and X-rays when needed. You receive a detailed written quote at the end of the consultation.
Not necessarily. Metal braces are usually the least costly option, and lingual braces usually cost more than the other methods because the brackets are custom-made and fitting them is more complex. The cost of clear aligners depends mainly on the number of aligners and on any extra refinement series, so a fair comparison is only possible with an individual treatment plan.
Not because of age itself. Adults sometimes need gum treatment or restorations before orthodontic treatment starts, and treatment may take longer than in children; both affect the overall cost. There is no upper age limit for straightening teeth as long as the gums are healthy.
It depends on the quote, so ask before you start. A retainer is an essential part of treatment, because without it teeth tend to move back. Check whether the quote states if the first retainer and the follow-up visits after braces come off are included, and what replacing a lost or broken retainer costs.
