How much do dental implants cost? Why there is no flat rate
The cost of dental implants adds up several components (surgery, implant, abutment and crown) that vary with the amount of bone and the number and position of the implants, so there is no flat rate.
For patients from the US, Dr Haim Aseriel's clinic in Jerusalem provides itemized receipts (with the treatment details) that you can submit to your dental plan or to Israeli supplementary insurance; reimbursement depends on your policy, so check with your insurer before treatment.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a biocompatible titanium screw placed in the jawbone that acts as an artificial root to support a crown, a bridge or a denture. Osseointegration, the direct bonding of living bone with the implant surface, is the biological basis of success. According to a meta-analysis, about 96% of dental implants survived 10 years (Howe et al., Journal of Dentistry, 2019). Implant planning is based on a clinical exam and imaging, and in some cases a digital scan.
What is included in the cost of a dental implant?
The cost of a dental implant usually adds up several components: the implant itself, the abutment, the final crown and the implant surgery.
| Usually included | Usually not included | Depends on the case |
|---|---|---|
| Implant surgery: local anesthesia, incision and stitches | Extraction | 3D imaging (CBCT) |
| The implant (titanium): the clinic places MIS implants | Gum cleaning or gum treatment | Temporary restoration |
| Abutment: the connector between the implant and the crown | Bone graft | Uncovering stage and healing abutment |
| Final crown: zirconia or E.max, metal-free | Sinus lift | Follow-up visits |
Preparatory treatment, 3D imaging and the temporary restoration are not always included in the implant price: make sure each one appears separately in the written quote. Because these components add up, every quote has to be individual and itemized.
What affects the cost of dental implants?
2.21%
overall implant failure rate
- Available bone: thin bone may require a dental bone graft or short dental implants.
- Number of implants: a single implant is very different from full mouth dental implants.
- Implant position: in a retrospective analysis of 158,824 implants from an Israeli dental records database, the failure rate in the central incisor area (3.37%) and in the upper molar area was roughly double that of other areas (Tobias et al., Journal of Functional Biomaterials, 2025).
- General health: smoking, diabetes and osteoporosis increase risk and costs.
- Restorative materials: the type of crown, for example zirconia or E.max, affects the final price.
In the same database, the overall failure rate was 2.21% and the early failure rate, during bone integration, was 1.56% (Tobias et al., Journal of Functional Biomaterials, 2025).
How a dental implant quote is put together
The treatment plan is drawn up after a clinical exam and imaging, in 3D (CBCT, taken at the clinic) when needed. Dr Haim Aseriel reviews each case, and a detailed written quote, built on the bone assessment and the number of implants needed, is presented at the end of the consultation.
The price of a single implant is fundamentally different from a full restoration plan with several implants and prosthetic components; when an extensive full mouth rehabilitation is needed, the quote details each stage separately.
Does preparatory treatment increase the cost?
After an extraction, the width of the bone ridge can shrink by about 29% to 63% within six months (Tan et al., Clinical Oral Implants Research, 2012); the more bone is lost, the more likely preparatory treatment becomes.
Preparation time directly affects the treatment plan and its cost. Unlike cases where an implant can be placed immediately, patients who need longer preparation, such as a sinus lift, a bone graft or gum treatment, go through extra steps before the main surgery. Same-day dental implants are an option for suitable patients, saving part of the waiting time; the examination shows whether this route suits you.

Dental implants in Israel's health basket: who is eligible?
The need for implant-supported restorations is especially common with age: in the United States, about 11% of people aged 65 to 74 and almost one in five people aged 75 and over have lost all their teeth (CDC, Oral Health Surveillance Report, 2024).
11.4%
- of US adults aged 65–74 have lost all their teeth
19.7%
- of those aged 75 and over
According to Israel's Ministry of Health, residents aged 72 and over are entitled through the national health basket (סל הבריאות, sal habriut) to preventive, restorative and prosthetic dental treatment with a reduced copayment, including up to four implants to retain a complete lower denture, under set conditions and frequency. This is general information: for eligibility, the copayment and where the benefit can be used, contact your health fund (kupat holim). See also dental care for seniors.
Questions to ask about your implant quote
- Are imaging, the uncovering stage (implant uncovering) and the healing abutment included?
- Is a temporary tooth or restoration included while the implant heals?
- Which crown material is planned, and what does the abutment cost?
- Which preparatory treatments (extraction, gum treatment, bone graft, sinus lift) might be added, and when would you know?
- Are follow-up visits included?
A personal dental implant quote in Jerusalem
For example, when a patient needs several implants after losing many teeth, an early examination showing enough bone may avoid preparatory treatment and shorten the timeline. Each quote is built on the examination findings: the bone, the number of implants and the level of restoration needed. When a natural tooth can be saved, that is usually the preferred option; when an implant is the right solution, the quote lists every stage in advance. Dr Haim Aseriel (DDS, NYU College of Dentistry) holds the consultation in English at 12 HaTnufa Street in Talpiot, south Jerusalem, open Sun 8:00–19:00 · Mon 9:00–19:00 · Tue–Wed 9:00–21:00 · Thu 8:30–21:00 · Fri 8:00–14:00. Dental implant cost: frequently asked questions
The price of a single tooth implant is not uniform: it is set according to an individual treatment plan and depends on the type of implant, the type of crown, the amount of bone and the need for preliminary treatment such as an extraction or a bone graft. A detailed written quote is given after an examination and imaging.
The cost of a dental implant usually includes several components: the implant surgery and local anesthesia, the implant itself, the abutment (connector) and the final crown. Check in the written quote whether imaging, the uncovering stage, the temporary restoration and follow-up visits are also included.
The implant price usually does not include preparatory treatment such as an extraction, gum treatment, a bone graft or a sinus lift, and sometimes not 3D imaging or a temporary restoration either. That is why it is important to get a written quote that lists each component separately.
The cost of dental implants varies with clinical and personal factors: the amount of available bone, the number and position of the implants, general health, smoking and diabetes, and the restorative materials. A patient with enough bone usually needs a simpler plan than a patient who needs bone building.
Yes. Preparatory treatment such as a sinus lift, a bone graft or gum treatment adds steps, time and cost. When there is enough bone, the implant can sometimes be placed right after the extraction, which shortens treatment.
