Veneers cost: what determines the price?
The price of veneers is not a single fixed number: it is the result of a clinical assessment that takes into account the type of veneer, the condition of the teeth and how many teeth are treated.
Protruding teeth may also need preparatory treatment that affects the cost.
Ceramic vs composite veneers: price and durability
Porcelain veneers
Porcelain veneers showed a survival rate of 93.5% after 10 years (Beier et al., Int J Prosthodont, 2012), which makes them a long-term investment.
Direct composite veneers
Composite veneers cost less but, according to the American Dental Association (ADA), are less durable and less stain-resistant over time. Their advantage: they are easier to repair.
Types of veneers and how they differ
- Composite veneers: the least expensive option, usually done in one visit and repairable, but less durable over time.
- Porcelain veneers (feldspathic): can be very thin, 0.2–0.3 mm, preserving as much enamel as possible (Smielak et al., 2022).
- Laminate veneers: very thin veneers, often with no preparation, suited to mild changes in color and shape.
- E-MAX veneers: a highly translucent glass-ceramic that mimics the look of a natural tooth.
- Nano-ceramic veneers: a hybrid material that combines strength and aesthetics, suited to worn teeth.
- Zirconia veneers: a strong material, with only short-term clinical follow-up data. The clinic offers them mainly to patients with bite problems or bruxism; even with zirconia, patients who grind their teeth need a night guard.
Veneer prices by type: how do they compare?
Veneer prices vary with the material: composite veneers are usually the less expensive option, while lab-made porcelain, E-MAX and zirconia veneers cost more.
A clinical study that followed 1,459 veneers in 341 patients for up to 10 years (71.5% direct composite and 28.5% ceramic) found an annual failure rate of about 4% for composite veneers versus about 1.2% for ceramic veneers (Mazzetti et al., Dental Materials, 2022). In other words, composite veneers cost less but have a shorter life. The cost of porcelain veneers is usually higher, but so is the durability found in studies.
| Criterion | Direct composite veneers | Porcelain / ceramic veneers |
|---|---|---|
| Share in the study (1,459 veneers) | 71.5% | 28.5% |
| Cost | Lower | Usually higher |
| Durability | Shorter lifespan | 93.5% survival after 10 years |
| Annual failure rate (up to 10 years) | About 4% | About 1.2% |
In the same study, composite veneers needed repairs and replacements more often, and were usually replaced with the same material.
Examination, treatment plan and price quote
detailed and personalized
During the consultation, Dr Haim Aseriel examines your teeth, explains all the options and gives you a transparent price quote, with no obligation. The clinic is at 12 HaTnufa Street, Jerusalem.
What is included in a veneers quote, and what may be extra?
A price heard from a friend often leaves out preparation, imaging or a night guard. A realistic budget for veneers takes into account the clinical preparation stage, including exams, X-rays and preparatory treatment when needed. In a more complex full mouth rehabilitation that involves several teeth together with gum or root canal treatment, the total cost is calculated as a single treatment plan.
A complete veneers quote usually includes:
- Examination and planning, sometimes with a preview of the result
- Tooth preparation and temporary veneers, when needed
- Dental lab work (for ceramic veneers)
- Bonding the veneers and a follow-up check
Sometimes priced separately: X-rays, preparatory treatment (gum treatment, fillings, root canal treatment), a night guard, and future repair or replacement of a veneer.
In a study of porcelain veneers, half of the patients were diagnosed with bruxism (teeth grinding), which increased the risk of veneer failure 7.7-fold (Beier et al., Int J Prosthodont, 2012). Early diagnosis and a night guard are therefore part of the budget, not an unnecessary extra.
Are veneers covered by dental insurance?
According to the American Dental Association, veneers are considered a cosmetic treatment, so many dental plans do not cover them unless there is a medical reason. For American and other English-speaking patients, the clinic provides a written treatment plan and itemized receipts that you can submit to your insurer to request reimbursement. Whether and how much a plan reimburses treatment received in Israel depends on your policy, so check with your insurer before you start.
Comparing veneer quotes: questions to ask
- Which material? Composite, feldspathic porcelain, E-MAX, nano-ceramic or zirconia, and why that choice for your teeth.
- How many veneers? The number of teeth included, and whether the plan could start with fewer.
- What preparation? Whether enamel will be removed, and how much; whether temporary veneers are included.
- What comes first? Any gum treatment, fillings or root canal treatment needed before the veneers.
- What happens later? Follow-up visits, a night guard if you grind your teeth, and what applies if a veneer chips or comes off.
Your written quote: how it works at the clinic
Dr Haim Aseriel's clinic in Jerusalem offers E-MAX, nano-ceramic and zirconia veneers (zirconia mainly for patients with bite problems or bruxism). Ceramic veneers are made in the clinic's on-site dental lab by a dental technician, with CAD/CAM (Amann Girrbach milling). The quote is given in writing after the examination and lists the number of veneers, the material, the treatment stages and any related treatment.
Each veneer is planned for the specific tooth, its existing enamel and the overall smile. Impressions are taken with a Shining 3D Aoralscan 3 intraoral scanner (no impression paste), and a DSD (Digital Smile Design) simulation helps plan the smile before the tooth is touched.
A prospective study that followed 186 porcelain veneers in 35 patients for an average of 9 years found higher survival for no-prep or minimal-prep veneers than for conventional veneers (Smielak et al., Clin Oral Investig, 2022). Such a veneer also saves some preparation work, but it does not suit every case.

Veneers cost: frequently asked questions
The cost of veneers depends mainly on the material, the number of teeth and the complexity of the case. Composite veneers are the less expensive option and are usually done in one visit; lab-made ceramic veneers (feldspathic porcelain, including laminate veneers, E-MAX and zirconia) cost more. An accurate price is only possible after an examination, ideally as an itemized written quote.
Composite veneers cost less up front but are less durable: in a study that followed 1,459 veneers for up to 10 years, the annual failure rate was about 4% for composite veneers versus about 1.2% for ceramic veneers. When comparing, consider not only the initial price but also the likelihood of future repairs and replacements.
A veneers quote usually covers the examination and planning, tooth preparation, temporary veneers when needed, the dental lab work, bonding and a follow-up check. X-rays, preparatory treatment (gum treatment, fillings, root canal treatment) and a night guard are sometimes priced separately, so ask for a detailed, itemized written quote.
